Mainstream and Niche Magazines

Mainstream Magazine

This is a magazine which is aimed at a large, varied audience and features not only different musicians but musicians from different genres of music. A Mainstream Magazine has a large readership and circulation. An example of a Mainstream Magazine is the music magazine- NME.

Niche/Demographic Magazine

This is a magazine that has a small readership and only caters for a specific type/ genre of music. This is done as its aim is to target a small, specific (niche) audience. An example of a Niche Magazine is a magazine called – Terrorizer. The circulation and readership of this magazine is a lot smaller than a mainstream magazine as they magazines do not appeal to a large target audience and cover a large variety of music genre’s they have chosen genre and therefore a chosen target audience.
